Firefly was our first entry into the first annual 48 Hr film project competition. Teams have 48 hrs to write, produce, shoot, edit and score a 4-7 minute piece. The rules dictate that each short has to include a specific line, character, and prop, AND each team draws a genre that must be followed. We chose “film de demme” so naturally we thought of our good friend Kevin Burdick and his song about a waitress that slaves away all night to provide for her family. We needed to create a story line that could be resolved in a short time period, so we had some drug-crazed kid come in and hold up the diner and let our humble heroine make everything better. For this short we won an award for “Best Writing.”

Teams have 48 hrs to write, produce, shoot, edit and score a 4-7 minute piece. The rules dictate that each short has to include a specific line, character, and prop, AND each team draws a genre that must be followed. We chose “Sci-Fi.” We created this time travel short in one weekend. Watch closely, it’s easy to get lost!
